Australian Alpine Epic Trail now Open

Monday 15th January 2018

10:00am UPDATE

  • The Australian Alpine Epic Trail has reopened to MTB riders as of 10:00am, Monday January 15th
  • We thank riders for remaining off this trail in the wake of last week’s bushfire
  • Blacking out is now complete and DELWP have completed removal of any dangerous timber in the region
  • As a bonus the Pinnacle Track climb has been re-graded
  • Riders are to proceed with caution from the top of Pinnacle Track as there have been some minor track changes and realignments. Expect soft, unconsolidated trail conditions for a week or so.
  • Please be aware there may be some vehicle movement over the coming weeks as continued refurbishment of the trail takes place
  • Note the “Enjoy” log is no longer in place (lost in a fight with a bulldozer we believe) we hope to have a replacement installed at some future point

Tuesday 9th January 2018

9:00am UPDATE

  • The Australian Alpine Epic Trail will remain closed for the remainder of the week as the Mt Buller & Mt Stirling Resort Management and DELWP work to agree on when it is safe to reopen
  • The bushfire is now listed as contained
  • All XC and flow trails on Mt Buller remain open and clear to ride including the Delatite River trail, all trails on Corn Hill, trails to Howqua Gap and the Stonefly loop on Mt Stirling
  • Downhill trails Abom, Outlaw and International will be open Saturday and Sunday along with the Northside Express chairlift operations
  • Mirimbah Store shuttles to Mt Buller are operational as normal
  • Any updates to this trail closure will be made prior to the weekend

Monday 8th January 2018

3:00pm UPDATE

  • Australian Alpine Epic remains closed to all MTB riders until further notice
  • The Mt Buller trails, Corn Hill trails, Delatite River Trail and Stonefly loop/circuit all remain open to ride
  • Multiple DELWP ground crews are in place and are working to contain the fire, at this stage the fire is active
  • The Mt Buller & Mt Stirling Resort Management will be required to assess the Epic trail and it’s condition once this area has been declared safe to do so. At this stage in time we cannot tell if any of the trail has been negatively affected by the fire itself or the movement of the firefighting teams within this remote region of our resort
  • We thank you for your understanding of these conditions and your respect of the trail closures that are in place. We would also like to thank the quick work of the DELWP teams both in the air and on the ground in their efforts to control this fire today
