Safety on the trails

Mt Buller is an alpine environment and conditions can change quickly, with sub-zero temperatures and even snow occurring in summer. Please ensure you check the weather forecast and come suitably prepared. Trails are graded according to their difficulty, in accordance with international standards. Be sure to choose a trail that matches your fitness, ability and equipment. Remember to ride within your limits.

Mountain biking can be hazardous. Trails at Mt Buller may include unmarked obstacles and hazards such as sticks, rocks, logs, trees, steep inclines, drop-offs and loose surfaces. Riders attempting these tracks do so at their own risk. Downhill trails at Mt Buller include extremely rough and rocky terrain. Specific downhill or freeride mountain bikes with front and rear suspension are recommended.

First Aid & Emergency

First aid professionals are on hand to assist during downhill trail operating hours between Boxig Day and the end of January, as well as during the downhill shuttle period from February until the end of April. In the event of injury on downhill trails during these times, notify the nearest chairlift operator and tell them the nature of the injury and your location. In case of an emergency on cross-country/wilderness trails, phone 000 or contact Resort Management on 03 5777 6077, which is able to reach emergency services on your behalf. Resort Management is open from 8:30am–5pm on weekdays and 10am–4pm on weekends and public holidays.

Mobile Phone Coverage

Mobile phone coverage (particularly Telstra) is fairly good throughout the Resort, and it is advised that you carry a mobile on you at all times.

Helmets and Clothing

Helmets are mandatory to wear in Australia. Full face helmets approved to Australian bicycle riding standards are compulsory for all downhill mountain bikers. Other protective equipment such as gloves, body armour and protective eyewear are also recommended.

Shared Trails

Most of trails across the Mt Buller network are shared amongst bush walkers, trail runners, mountain bike riders and horse riders. These trails are marked on each of the trail maps. We ask that all trail users be aware of horses and please share the trails.
