Driving to Mt Buller

Mt Buller is located 248km northeast of Melbourne, an easy and scenic three-hour drive. Mansfield is the closest major town to the Resort – follow the signs to Mt Buller, 45 minutes from Mansfield, with the final 16km a winding, scenic mountain road to the Mt Buller Village. Entry to the Resort is free throughout summer. You can also drive your car in to the Village, however there are parking restrictions in place, please check signage.

There are several ways to get here, depending on which side of town you’re coming from, and the scenery on the way is well worth taking your time to see and enjoy:

  • Maroondah Highway via Yarra Glen and Yea – enjoy the Yarra Valley food and wine region on the way
  • Plenty Road via Kinglake and Yea – enjoy the twists and turns of this scenic route through Kinglake
  • Hume Highway via Tallarook and Yea - Take in the picturesque Valley of 1000 hills

Mt Buller is also easy to get to from interstate, and is just 1.5 hours from the Hume Highway at Benalla. Driving times from capital cities:

  • Melbourne: 3 hours
  • Canberra: 6 hours
  • Sydney: 9 hours
  • Adelaide: 9.5 hours

Flying

Mt Buller is just three hours from Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, and just 2.5 hours from Albury airport. Hire cars are available from both airports.
